A Single Man Trailer

This trailer gave us inspiration, whenever he sees a beautiful human being the clip goes an 'orangy' fade. We decided to use this effect in our trailer and to have a purple fade throughout the trailer in the scenes where the boy is being filmed. The purple stands for bruising, and we decided to carry this purple theme throughout the trailer to show how the abuse of his mother had bruised his childhood.

Sponsorship Inspiration

As social realisms quite frequently don't have much funding, we wanted to look into getting a sponsor for a our film that would not only (in theory) fund our film but also would create more publicity for our film.
This idea came from the film Precious in which Oprah Winfery and Tyler Perry help fund the distribution of the film after seeing it at the Sundance Film Festival. Having names such as theirs backing a film their fans will watch it as they are such big influences. We wanted this for our film as it would be another way to get people interested enough in our film to watch it.

Nil By Mouth Trailer Awards and Acclimations

As another film that is based around domestic violence we realise that awards and acclimations where heavily relied upon to draw in an audience to watch the film. We figure this is because people would not want to watch a film that would depress them unless they thought it was of a quality and worth watching due to the impact it would have and the acting.
The Cannes Film Festival award for 1997 is shown with the logo that is also recognisable and attention grabbing.
Although all the awards and acclimations are in different colours they are all in keeping with each other when it comes to their typography and layout.
The black background also makes the writing stand out as there is nothing to distract you from it. although the first two pieces of writing have three scenes of the movie above them it only enhances what the writing is saying and compliments it.

Fish Tank Trailer Awards and Acclimations

The awards and acclimations in the Fish Tank teaser trailer are direct and to the point.
All of these shots of writing appear and then zoom in for approximately 2-5 seconds depending on how much writing their is.
The awards with both the writing and/or with the logo are in the same colours and style as them rest of the typography.
The acclimations simply state the quote and then who it is from.
The star ratings are something which everyone recognises so having 5 stars in a trailer automatically tells the viewer that the film is extremely liked and worth watching as it is universally discernible.

Unknown actors and actresses

Fish tank is a prime example of using unkown characters in a social realism. This is because it increases the realism and makes it more believable if they are not familiar faces. Although these actors have experience in acting, the majority of them have never played in a film.

Opening Experimentation

We wanted the opening of our teaser trailer to be catching and different, so we decided to experiment with what would look best and make the most impact. The opening we decide to use will have sounds of arguing, fighting and violence over the top of it.

Kiera Knightly Domestic Violence Awareness

We have been inspired by this awareness video, using a well known actress Kiera Knightly. The shots in this clip involve many close ups and the shots mainly focus on the characters in the clip. There is low key lighting throughout the video, which fits with the sub genre.

                          Initial Typography Ideas

This typography was appealing due to the top of the letters being cut off and tilted, this emphases the tilt in the relationship and how there are two sides in a domestic violence relationship. Also how the antagonist takes most of the control showing that it is unequal by the line splitting at the top, the antagonist is represented by the larger proportion. This typography is clear and simple to read.

These two typography ideas reminded us of a child's scribble, this could relate to the child in the storyline, describing his parents relationship. the outline shows there is some stability and the scribble in the letters suggest that the child is confused by what is going on. This typographys are not bold enough  and would not stand out clearly on a poster, the website or on a DVD sleeve.
This again suggests confusion or strain on the relationship, relating to the storyline. It is bold and is eye catching, but we think it is too fussy.
We liked the way some of the letters are tilted, however this font feels too 'fun' and domestic violence is a serious matter, therefore would not fit with the style of the storyline. Also the merged letters could make confusion for people when reading.
This typography is simple and the grey/lilac colour fits with the title and Jenny Holzer's work. It reminds us of a stencil and they are often used by children.
This calligraphic style could suggest that the storyline is an account or true story, which would fit well with the social realist genre of the film, due to the hand writting.

This was our favourite due to the breaks in the letters, showing the breaks and damage in the relationship of the characters. The typography is easy to read and bold.
