Codes and Conventions of british social realism films

  • Social realism films represent real life in Britain
  • It usually uses unknown actors. This helps to make it more 'real to life'.
  • The stories often portrayed in the films are from a working class background and shows them struggling to survive, often because of money shortages.

We decided to make our social realism film go against the usual conventions so we decided to use a 'middle class family'. We wanted to do this to show that domestic violence doesn't always happen because of money concerns but it can also happens in family that appear to be slightly more 'privilaged'.
