Initial Typography Ideas

This typography was appealing due to the top of the letters being cut off and tilted, this emphases the tilt in the relationship and how there are two sides in a domestic violence relationship. Also how the antagonist takes most of the control showing that it is unequal by the line splitting at the top, the antagonist is represented by the larger proportion. This typography is clear and simple to read.  

These two typography ideas reminded us of a child's scribble, this could relate to the child in the storyline, describing his parents relationship. the outline shows there is some stability and the scribble in the letters suggest that the child is confused by what is going on. This typographys are not bold enough  and would not stand out clearly on a poster, the website or on a DVD sleeve.

This again suggests confusion or strain on the relationship, relating to the storyline. It is bold and is eye catching, but we think it is too fussy.

We liked the way some of the letters are tilted, however this font feels too 'fun' and domestic violence is a serious matter, therefore would not fit with the style of the storyline. Also the merged letters could make confusion for people when reading.

This typography is simple and the grey/lilac colour fits with the title and Jenny Holzer's work. It reminds us of a stencil and they are often used by children.

This calligraphic style could suggest that the storyline is an account or true story, which would fit well with the social realist genre of the film, due to the hand writting.

This was our favourite due to the breaks in the letters, showing the breaks and damage in the relationship of the characters. The typography is easy to read and bold.

To make our teaser trailer more appealing we have decided to show some ‘happy’ scenes which we hope will appeal to more people, this will show that there may be some hope in the storyline. This will make the viewers want to know the outcome. Therefore hopefully drawing people in to watch the film.

We are showing lots of different short scenes such as fighting etc.. This will allow the viewers to understand what kind of film it is without giving away to much of the narrative.

Train spotting teaser trailer deconstruction

For our research we looked at many social realism teaser trailors. Here is our deconstruction for trainspotting:
The scene starts with the diegetic sound of the men running across the stones on the train tracks. The camera is positioned on the ground allowing the viewers only to see their feet giving it a sense of mystery. There is then a long shot of them running which shows the viewers that it is an isolated place and that there in no one else around.

The diegetic noise of them laughing makes it seem as if their either happy or being silly. There is a close up shot of the rope tied around his neck, showing that there is no way of getting out of the situation of being tied up on a train track, the fact the man is not worried about this shows that he must be on drugs. 

The diegetic sound of him talking controversially about not smoking because it ‘can seriously damage your health’ and ‘most of all don’t let your mates tie you up on the railway track’ is entertaining for the audience because he is being very controversial. The next shot is a long shop of him tied up on the track and the diegetic sound of the train coming emphasises that there is no one around therefore there is no way out of it, the noise of the train starts to increase, making him shout showing that the train is getting closer and closer therefore he is getting into more danger. The close up of him clenching his face and then the screen going black and non diegetic ‘trashy’ music leaves the viewers wanting to know what happened to him, which therefore achieves its purposes because they will be inclined to watch the film.

Having also watched the trailer it is very different to the teaser trailer, I found that the teaser trailer does not give show the story line in any way, instead it just shows boys being silly and creates a sense of mystery, therefore achieving its purposes.

Fish Tank fim trailer deconstruction

Establishing shot of the town the protagonist lives in, highlights the desertion of the town and is evidence for the social realist genre. Fencing surrounds the area, which depicts the thought of being trapped, no escape just like a real fish tank.

An over the shoulder shot is used to signify the mother and daughters relationship from the protagonists’ perception and to reveal the small kitchen size.

The juxtaposition between the council estate flats and the bright sun creates varied emotions. Although the flats are an eye sore, the bright sun forms a beautiful scene.

This mid shot helps to portray hope. The family are dancing together to show happiness which gives the audience more of a reason to watch it.

 

Bold title of the film flashes up at the end of the trailer in order to capture the audience’s attention and to remain in their thoughts.

The tailer is in the centre of the website because if you have never seen the film they are incising you to see and buy it.

Typography and Colour Scheme

The title is a replica of the poster, this is so it is recognisable and people know instantly which film it is.

The colour scheme of blue and yellow runs throughout the website. It links in with the blue of the title and keeps the hole website together in the viewers eyes and doesn't over power the more significant parts.

Cast and Directer

Acclamations

Having the acclimation fade in and out interchangeably means you get to see them all but are not cluttering the website with to much writing.

DVD and Hyperlinks

This advertises and makes the audience the aware of when it is available to buy as the perpose of the website is to help the film make money and therefore sell copies of the film.

The hyperlinks to sites where you can buy he film are also for this reason. The hyperlinks to sites such as Facebook and Twitter is also a marketing technique to try and use word of mouth to promote the film.

Social Realism

Social Realism pushes the boundaries of a hollywood film and shows the struggles and hardship that a lot of British people endure, it was developed as a reaction against idealism. 

We noticed in most social realism teaser trailers that the narrative is very rarely used. 

For this reason we did not want to show the scenes in chronological order to make sure that we did not give the storyline away, as this would make people intrigued and want to watch the full length film.
